The blue eye hair clip is an adorable little amulet that protects you from the evil eye. It has conquered the world after touring the Mediterranean basin and Turkey, where it comes from the glassmakers of Izmir and is called Nazar Boncuk; but above all, it was popularised and adulated in 1832 by the Greeks in Athens, where it is called Matiasma or Mati or Mataki, the 3rd eye in France or Oeil Grec, and will have less luck on the other side of the Channel, where it will be called devil eye.
